Surveillance results in New Jersey drug chargesNarcotics officers arrested three men in the Jersey City Heights on drug charges this week while conducting surveillance at an intersection due to numerous complaints of drug activity in the area, officials said.
Carlos Alayon, 47, of Monastery Place in Union City and Steven Kubes, 36, of Tonnelle Avenue in Jersey City, were arrested Friday at Summit Avenue and Irving Street, Capt. Jon Tooke said.
They were both charged with possession of cocaine, possession with intent to distribute and possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, Tooke said.
Also arrested and charged with possession of cocaine was Lenier Garcia, 47, of Liberty Avenue in Jersey City, Tooke said.
At about 7 p.m. the officers saw Garcia enter a bar only to walk out again with Alayon two minutes later, Tooke said. They watched as Alayon went to a car, took out a bag and gave it to Garcia in exchange for money, Tooke said. Alayon went back into the bar and perimeter units arrested Garcia a few blocks away after finding he had a bag of marijuana, Tooke said.
At about 9 p.m. police entered the bar and saw Alayon handing Kubes a bag containing a white substance and both were taken into custody, Tooke said. Officers found Kubes had one bag of cocaine on him and when they searched the car they found four bags of marijuana and 20 bags of cocaine, Tooke said.
