New Jersey Cops: Man takes city-owned SUV, hits 10 cars in long pursuitA 28-year-old man jumped into a Jersey City, New Jersey Municipal Utility Authority truck - parked on Neptune Avenue with the keys in the ignition - and led police on a chase that ended after he hit 10 parked cars, according to reports.
Dwayne Moore, 28, of Myrtle Avenue, was arrested Monday on charges of aggravated assault using a vehicle as a weapon, possession of a stolen car, receiving stolen property and eluding police, according to police reports.
He also faces drug charges as well as six motor vehicle summonses, and there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Moore allegedly jumped into the MUA's 2000 Ford Expedition at about 10:15 a.m. and drove off; a few minutes later, New Jersey officers in an unmarked car spotted the Expedition on Williams Avenue and radioed for assistance then pulled the car over themselves on Union Street, reports said.
When the cops approached the Expedition with their badges out, the engine revved and the SUV took off, heading toward West Side Avenue with the officers in pursuit again, reports said.
By the time the car turned from Bergen Avenue onto Orient Avenue going the wrong way, marked cars had joined the pursuit, reports said.
New Jersey Police said the SUV went out of control and slammed into 10 parked cars.
A 42-year-old man was sitting inside one of the parked cars - which was hit with such force that it spun around and was tossed to the opposite side of the street, reports said. His condition wasn't available last night.
The stolen Expedition then became wedged between two cars and could not break free, police said.
New Jersey Police said they finally got Moore out of the car and arrested him, and that during a search they found a vial of cocaine.
